The Written Word has partnered with the IFOA’s (International Festival of Authors) Lit On Tour programme to introduce Midland to some of Canada’s finest and newest writers of contemporary literature.

Vivek Shraya is a Toronto-based artist whose body of work includes several albums, films, and books. Her first book of poetry, even this page is white, won a 2017 Publisher Triangle Award and was long listed for CBC’s Canada Reads. Her debut novel, She of the Mountains, was named one of The Globe and Mail’s Best Books, and her first children’s picture book, The Boy & the Bindi, was featured on the National Post Bestseller List. Vivek has read and performed inter¬nationally at shows, festivals and post-secondary institutions, including sharing the stage with Tegan & Sara. She is one half of the music duo Too Attached and the founder of the publishing imprint VS. Books. A four-time Lambda Literary Award finalist, Vivek was a 2016 Pride Toronto Grand Marshal, and has received honours from Toronto Arts Foundation and The Writers’ Trust of Canada.

Siân Northey has published fiction for children and adults, as well as poetry and creative non-fiction. Rhyd y Gro (Gomer, 2016) is her second novel for adults. Her first poetry collection Trwy Ddyddiau Gwydr (Through Glass Days; Gwasg Carreg Gwalch) was shortlisted for the 2013 Wales Book of the Year Award. Spanish translations of eight of her poems will be included in an anthology published in Mexico.
She is currently studying part time for a PhD in Creative Writing at the School of Welsh at Bangor University, and was selected to the Writers at Work programme at the 2016 Hay Festival.
